SEVERNA PARK, MD — The fifth-ranked Limestone College men’s lacrosse team outscored second-ranked Le Moyne 3-0 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as the Saints (2-1) fell to the Dolphins 8-6 in a showdown of NCAA Division II powers in Severna Park, Maryland.

Limestone, down 5-0 in the second quarter, got on the board with 1:41 remaining in the half on a goal by Jake Rogalia (Liverpool, N.Y.) assisted by Riley Loewen (Burnaby, British Columbia). The Saints added a quick goal taking the ensuing face-off with Jeff Santo finding the back of the net with the assist from Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, MD) pulling Limestone within 5-2. However, the Dolphins (2-0) answered tallying a score with only 0:22 remaining in the half and led 6-2 at the intermission.

Limestone would pull within three goals for second time on the day that at the 8:40 mark of the third quarter when Jackson Decker (Port Moody, British, Columbia) zipped in a shot, the first of his two goals, cutting the deficit to 6-3. But LeMoyne responded adding goals with 4:34 and 4:24 left in the period to push its advantage to 8-3 thru three quarters.

The Saints tallied the first of their three scores in the fourth quarter with 7:40 to play when Poerstel took a pass from Decker and deposited his shot into the net with getting Limestone to within 8-4. Then in the final minute the Saints would get goals from Loewen at the 0:30 mark and Decker as time expired to get pulling within the final score of 8-6.

Limestone goalie Steve Gartleman (Seaford, N.Y.) came up with 10 saves on the day.

As for team stats, Limestone was 16-for-19 on clears and 9-of-18 on face-offs. Le Moyne held a 35-24 advantage in shots and a 23-18 edge in ground balls while turning the ball over eight times as compared the Saints’ 14.

Limestone returns to action on Saturday, March 13 hosting eighth-ranked Mars Hill in a South Region showdown with the face-off set for 1:00 p.m. at “The Rock”.
