Men’s Lacrosse:
CARTER AND GVOZDEN EARN CAA WEEKLY HONORS; PRIDE CLIMB TO SIXTH IN
USILA RANKINGS

HEMPSTEAD, NY – Hofstra senior midfielder Ryan Carter was named the
Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week and
Pride freshman goalie Andrew Gvozden was named the conference’s Rookie
of the Week for their play in last Saturday’s victory over Princeton,
the CAA announced Monday.

Carter (San Francisco, CA) tallied a career-best two goals and one
assist, equaling his total output for the 2008 season, in the Pride’s
9-7 victory over #3 Princeton at Shuart Stadium Saturday. He has already
doubled his 2008 season point output with six points this year. Carter
has four goals and two assists for the sixth-ranked Pride (3-1).

Playing in just his second collegiate game, Andrew Gvozden recorded
nine saves in the Pride’s 9-7 victory over the Princeton Tigers at
Shuart Stadium last Saturday. The Millersville, Maryland native posted
seven saves in the middle two periods to help the Pride build a 7-1 lead
six minutes into the third quarter. Gvozden faced 33 shots in the
contest and posted the first victory of his career.

The Pride climbed six places to sixth in the nation in this week’s
United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I
Coaches Poll following their 9-7 victory over then #3 Princeton last
Saturday. It is Hofstra’s highest ranking since being placed second
during the 2006 season.

The undefeated Cavaliers of Virginia (9-0) remain number one in this
week’s coaches poll followed by Syracuse in second, Notre Dame and
Cornell are third and Princeton is fifth. Hofstra is sixth followed by
UMBC, Duke, Johns Hopkins and North Carolina.
